Extraction

Extractions Types

While typically not as well-rounded as the plain leaf in effects, Kratom extracts can certainly serve a purpose for those with chronic pain or other debilitating conditions in which the plain leaf will not suffice.
There are a large variety of different types of extracts with varying effects, based upon both the method of extraction as well as the base plant material used to make them. Read below to learn about these different extract types.

Water-Based Extracts

kratom extractWater-based kratom extracts are by far the most common variety. As the name implies, the extract is performed by:  dissolving a portion of alkaloids into water, straining the powder, and evaporating the water. This process leaves a  brownish, more alkaloid-concentrated version of the plain leaf behind.
Water extracts are commonly referred to with an ‘x’ (e.g. 10x, 25x), which implies how much plain leaf material was used to create the same weight of resulting extract. Sadly, these figures are nearly always incorrect due to vendor dishonesty.
Pros:
  • More alkaloid-concentrated than plain leaf
  • Can be used in addition to plain leaf to potentiate effects
  • Relatively side-effect free in comparison to resin and full-spectrum extracts
  • More stimulating than the plain-leaf base material
  • Ability to dissolve in water
Cons:
  • Typically not very effective unless taken in conjunction with plain leaf
  • Not a well-rounded extract in terms of effects (less pain-killing effect and sedation)
  • High price per potency
  • Can increase tolerance

Kratom Resin Extracts

kratom resinIn comparison to water-based extractions, kratom resin extractions have a much more well-rounded profile of effects. These extracts are typically performed by extracting kratom with both a polar solvent and a non-polar solvent; a simple example of this would be water and ethanol. Like the water extract, the powder is strained and the alkaloid saturated non-polar/polar solvent is left to dry.
Pros:
  • Full-spectrum of effects
  • Ease of use
  • Easy storage
  • High potency per weight
Cons:
  • More expensive than plain leaf
  • Side-effects to potency ratio comparable to plain leaf
  • Temperature sensitive (melts in minor heat)

Kratom Tinctures

tinctureUnlike the other forms of extracts, kratom tinctures can vary in their method of extraction and their potency; because of this, buying them from an disreputable source can leave one disappointed. On the other hand, when they are done well, they can be quite potent.
Pros:
  • Ease of Use
  • Fast-acting
  • Convenience of storage
Cons:
  • Typically expensive
  • Variable Potency
  • Rarely provide a full-spectrum of effects
  • Rapid development of tolerance

Enhanced Leaf

Enhanced leaf UEIEnhanced leaf has become the go-to choice of many extract users due to it’s high potency and lack of side effects. Enhanced leaf is used by taking a highly potent kratom extract, dissolving it in a solution, soaking kratom leaves/powder in this solution and letting it dry. When done correctly, this method can create a highly potent leaf.
One of the most popular enhanced leaf blends of our era is known as UEI (Ultra Enhanced Indo).
Pros:
  • Very potent when done well
  • Lack of side-effects per potency
  • Typically well-rounded
  • Highly effective for pain
Cons:
  • Rapid development of tolerance
  • Can cause some withdrawal symptoms upon abrupt cessation after prolonged use
  • Relatively high price

How to make Kratom resin

kratom resinis created by boiling down kratom leaf into a concentrated paste or tar. The process is similar to that of Kratom extract. The resin can be heated (melted) and mixed into tea or coffee and drank for effect. Because this is a concentrated form of Kratom, it is much stronger and less is needed for effect.

 Kratom Resin Recipe:

  1. Add 25 - 35 grams of kratom powder to a pot filled with 1 liter of water.
  2. Gently boil, stirring every 2 - 3 minutes.
  3. When half of the water has evaporated, strain the leaves and place the liquid aside.
  4. Add the strained leaves & fresh 1 liter of water and repeat steps 1 - 3.
  5. Once repeated, discard the leaves/leaf powder.
  6. Combine the 2 volumes of water/extract/liquid and gently boil down.
  7. Remove liquid once it's reached a syrup like consistency.
  8. It can be placed on wax paper or ceramic plate and placed into freezer

Kratom Extract Tincture

is created through a extraction process using alcohol, water or citrus. The Kratom leaf or powder is extracted into liquid form, dried and ground into a powder or paste. Kratom extract is often found in strengths such as 15x, 20x, 50x and 100x. The kratom extract preparation contains the active alkaloids from the kratom leaf in a concentrated form.

Tools you will need Although tinctures are really simple to prepare using tools that you’ve probably have in your own kitchen, it is convenient to acquire some other tools in order to prepare and preserve them.  Here you are a list of these handy tools:

Glycerin: It is employed to stabilize alcohol-based kratom tinctures, including glycerin is non-obligatory but adding it will decelerate the evaporation and maintain your kratom tinctures as fresh as possible.
Measuring Cups: In conjunction with a kitchen scale, correct fluid measuring entails that you know precisely how potent is your final kratom tincture. You should always weigh and measure the kratom tinctures you make, not merely for security, but for being able to replicate the outcome.
Kitchen Scale: One of the many advantages of making your own kratom tinctures at home is that they can be stored very conveniently.
Strainer: The strainer will remove the kratom material of your tincture when it has been extracted.
Storage Bottles: Amber glass containers are the most effective approach to store the kratom tinctures you make at home. The tinted glass will keep off the light so they remain highly effective for a longer time. The chemical resistant cover is perfect for alcoholic based kratom tinctures (little blue bottles).
Citric Acid: Genuine food-grade citric acid will help preserving your tinctures, and in addition it will acidify them to achieve successful extractions.
Alcohol: ethyl alcohol (ethanol) is the only alcohol you should employ for making kratom tinctures.
Funnel: It is the simplest way to prevent spillages and fill tiny containers.
Extraction Bottle: These chemical resistant containers won’t crack or discharge dangerous substances into your kratom tincture no matter if heated up.

  •  Always weigh the kratom and note down the weight before you begin the process. This step is important for calculating the dosage afterwards, and must never be missed.
Suggested amount:
4 oz. (113g) of powdered kratom with 473ml of 40% alcohol or,
7 oz. (198g) of dried kratom leaves to 1 liter of 40% alcohol
(You can employ 40% alcoholic beverage like vodka (moonshine) or watered-down 95% ethanol (1/2 water + 1/2 ethanol to attain approximately 40%)
  •  Submerge: Put the pre-weighed kratom in a chemical-resistant plastic or glass container and incorporate alcohol making sure to cover it. If you are employing citric acid, put it right now and mix it. If you are not doing the water bath step, steep your kratom for 1 week in a cold room. If you are doing the water bath, heat the water to a simmer before taking it off from the heating and inserting the bottle carefully in the water. Keep the bottle in the warm water for at least an hour and repeat again with new heated up water.
  • Strain: Strain the kratom out of the tincture using a sieve and place the kratom tincture in a dish in order to evaporate.
  •  Evaporate: Cover up the dish with the tincture with tin foil to keep dirt out. Let the alcohol evaporate up to the point it’s decreased in volume by no less than 50%.
  •  Measure: Employing a measuring cup and the initial weight of the kratom, it’s simple to determine the potency of the kratom tincture. Divide the initial weight of the kratom (first step) by the final volume of the tincture. For example, if you started off with 200 grams of kratom and finished with 10 tbsp. of tincture, the final potency of your tincture is 20 grams of kratom per tbs.
  •  Store it: It is a smart idea to mark the kratom tincture with the name of the kratom variety you used, the potency mentioned above, and the day it was prepared. As soon as is kept in a cold, dark room, your kratom tincture will remain highly effective for one year typically.

What Is The Ideal Kratom Tincture Dosage?

The potency usually varies from. Most people aim to get a 4 - 20 grs kratom powder equivalent per drop. If you want to know how much kratom you are taking or you should take of an specific tincture.
